25 Year Anniversary of 9/11 - Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day

September 11, 2026 marked the 25 year anniversary of September 11th, 2001, the terroristic attacks on the World Trade Centers, Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA.

On that day in 2001, Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 employees during the September 11 attacks. This accounted for two-thirds of their New York-based workforce. The firm also lost 50 contractors and visitors who were in their offices and an additional 61 employees from the neighboring firm Euro Brokers. This was the largest loss of life suffered by any single organization during the attacks.

At that time, Cantor Fitzgerald occupied the 101st through 105th floors of the North Tower which was directly above the impact zone of American Airlines Flight 11.

To provide support for the families of the victims and bring good from this horrific tragedy, Cantor Fitzgerald created their Charity Day which takes place every September 11. It is a day to memorialize those whom they lost and bring some joy to the employees. Each year, they bring in celebrity guests to be part of the trading day. Each celebrity brings with them their charity of choice. Proceeds of trades from the day go to the families of 9/11 and the selected charities.

For the second year in a row, New York Yankees closing pitcher, David Bednar, has been part of this very special day and has selected Lending Hearts to be with him. It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be part of this extremely special day. The Cantor Fitzgerald locations are now in two different locations in Manhattan where visits were made to both that morning. At the conclusion, a very special visit was made to the 9/11 Memorial where we were able to pay our respects among the families and first responders.

In keeping with tradition, the NY Yankees have a home game on the evening of September 11th. This year, it was the "subway series" against the NY Mets. David Bednar closed the game with a win for the Yankees.

It was a highly emotional day that was also welcomed with peace and gratitude.
