2021 is nearly over! I find it so hard to believe!
It hasn’t been a year like 2020, but it certainly carried over many challenges from last year. Many who have been diagnosed or treated with cancer during these times have experienced an unprecedented level of isolation and loneliness.
In 2020, we created an all-virtual platform of integrative wellness care that allowed us to bring our Lending Hearts community into the homes and phones of individuals. For the first time ever, location didn’t matter. Through our digital efforts and community partnerships, patients from around the country are joining us.
Programming and outreach expanded through 2021. Mid-year, we were grateful to resume providing lunches to patients and their families in the oncology unit at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. By the last quarter of 2021, we were thrilled for the opportunity to bring back in-person experiences. Our first one was, appropriately, Cancer Support Night at the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We continue to monitor the world around us, but our care for the emotional, social and overall behavioral health of those living with cancer is always our top priority and how we deliver that care. We can do this because of the great support and generosity of others.
Again, this year, with great thanks to The Open Hearts Foundation, co-founded by Actress, Artist and Philanthropist, Jane Seymour and all supporters of the Open Hearts Foundation, Lending Hearts has been awarded a $10,000 matching grant opportunity. With matching gifts, you gift will be doubled!
