Our educational efforts have included Survivorship sessions to our families. These include informal conversations with a medical professional who addresses the impact of cancer treatment on different areas of the body. Past Survivorship sessions have included dermatology, oral health, exercise and nutrition and fertility.
In addition to Survivorship sessions, we also partner with area hospitals and hospital systems to bring seminars that educate and provide continuous education credits to doctors and nurses in the community. Together with the Oncology Department of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pitsburgh, we have provided a seminar to area school nurses to address students with cancer. We are also proud to have presented at the PASNAP 2015 Conference on this topic.
Bedside nurses at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh are able to participate in additional education and training to become Nurse Ambassadors for Lending Hearts. Nurse Ambassadors are then able to administer UP Street services of aromatherapy, seated yoga, hand/foot massage and relaxation to patients in the unit.
